Earth to Action
Healthy communities for a healthy planet
CVFP is excited to launch the Earth to Action (E2A) project in our Health Home
Earth to Action (E2A) is a University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine, department of Family Medicine, project that supports community-based physicians, health care providers, and clinics in addressing climate-related health risks and reducing the environmental impact of healthcare.
The E2A Project Mission
To mobilize people to reduce their impact on the environment and to prepare for the health impacts of climate change.
The E2A Project Plan
Through practical, evidence-based educational campaigns, visual resources and implementation tools, E2A helps clinic teams integrate sustainable, climate-informed practices into everyday patient care while maintaining high-quality care delivery.
Did You Know?
Canada's health care system is responsible for 4.6% of our country’s greenhouse gas emissions as well as more than 200 000 tons of other pollutants - making it one of the worst per capita health care polluters in the world. (Source: Canadian Medical Association Journal, ‘Canada’s health system is among the least green’, Lauren Vogel).
Education around environmental issues for clinics/health facilities, providers and patients will be foundational in creating a more sustainable future.
Understanding your Thoughts on Climate and Health
As part of the project, we are inviting patients to fill out a short anonymous survey (approximately 5–10 minutes) to understand your thoughts on climate and health, and the role of primary care in discussing health topics that may be affected by environmental or climate-related factors. To complete the survey, please click the link button below. We would greatly appreciate your participation!
E2A at CVFP
Over the coming months, you may also notice posters throughout our Health Home and hear health care providers discussing topics related to climate and health including:
wildfire smoke
extreme heat
plant-forward diets
environmentally sustainable health care practices like inhaler use
These conversations will provide you with information and resources that may help you protect and improve your health.
If any of these topics are important to you or your family, or you would like to learn more, we encourage you to talk to your CVFP Health Team provider.
We also encourage you to visit the E2A website for additional information and resources.
